Books and Bottoms

In May we received an Arts Grant from the Black Belt Community Foundation; to provide books and literacy activities, through art to our families.

Over the course of the Summer we held several (arts & literacy) sessions. We held the first session on June 1st, for our Early literacy program “Books and Bottoms”.

The idea behind Books and Bottoms was to provide families with books and the knowledge to help them start a home library for their child. All books don’t have to be bought. You can make a book out of a sheet of paper or purchase a blank paperback book and write your own.

Each month during distribution, families were able to participate in the “arts & literacy” session. Parents were able to create personalized books while learning ways to incorporate literacy in their child’s daily routine.  After each session the babies received a book to add to their home library.
